NORFOLK ISLAND GIFT 2015

Despite the need to postpone the “Gift” by one day, a great group of athletes, friends and families settled into an afternoon of athletics at the Malcolm Champion Oval on Sunday 6 December.

In over 20 years of staging the Norfolk Island Gift, the events have been based on the World Masters Grading Tables that are used to handicap athletes based on their age and gender to ensure that every participant has an even chance of winning a particular event. It is then up to fitness and preparation that eventually determines the winners and placegetters. The 2015 events included three events, the Norfolk Island Gas Centre 100 metres, the World Traders 400 metres and the Middlegate Mile.

Athlete entry numbers were again solid but with a number of competing events on the day saw fewer senior athletes participating despite the over $2000 in cash and prizes on offer.

Other winners of their respective heats were Matt Snell, Charlie Carr and Casey Snell all easily progressing to the final.

Taylah menzies defends her title in the "gift" 2010

Taylah Menzies recorded her second straight win in last weekends Norfolk Island Gas Centre Gift. Her effort in winning the 100metres event topped off a great preparation for Taylah, being ably assisted by family support and coaching from Grandfather Yarm and Dad Dylan who is currently residing in Brisbane. Between Dylan and daughter Taylah they have notched up 5 wins over the years and there might yet be a third family member keen to have their name etched on the perpetual trophy – seems Yarm might yet be out training next year to give Taylah a run for her money. Watch this space!
