In a performance that blended great technique with a family legacy of athletic excellence, Kingston Menzies carved his name into local sporting history on Saturday, securing the prestigious title of GIFT25’ Champion. His victory adds another chapter to a lineage of quality sprinters and cements his place among Norfolk Island’s standout young athletes.

The annual Athletics Norfolk Island GIFT unfolded beneath flawless blue skies at Malcolm Champion Oval on 6 December, drawing a spirited crowd of supporters and competitors. The event once again highlighted the strength of community backing, with local sponsors contributing more than $2100 in prizes — a generous pool distributed across athletes of all ages who showcased determination and emerging talent.
The Gas Centre 100 metres final brought together the day’s eight quickest sprinters after fiercely contested heats earlier in the program. In the deciding race, Kingston Menzies and Misha Ryabtsev delivered an exceptional display of composure and power, steadying their nerves and driving through to a thrilling, closely fought finish.

The World Traders 400 metres once again belonged to Alba Menghetti, whose trademark determination saw her push through the gruelling lactic burn that comes with the one-lap sprint. Her versatility was on full display; after securing the 400m title, Alba returned to claim a commendable sixth place in a highly competitive 100m final.

Endurance and tactical discipline were the defining features of the Norfolk Island Real Estate Mile, an event that demands athletes find the delicate balance between race pace and rising fatigue. While the distance often challenges younger competitors, Cody Randall proved more than equal to the task. Showing maturity beyond his years and outstanding pace judgment, Cody controlled the race superbly to seize the 2025 Mile Championship.
